1. Accessing Meta Ads Manager
To start, go to:
👉 Meta Ads Manager
You’ll need a Facebook account and business page. You can also use the Meta Ads Manager app.
Once inside Meta Ads Manager, you will see three levels:
- Campaign (Top Level)
- Ad Set (Middle Level)
- Ad (Bottom Level)

2. Understanding Campaign, Ad Set & Ad
Think of it like this:
Campaign = The Goal
This is where you choose your objective (Traffic, Engagement, etc.).
Ad Set = The Control Room
Here you choose:
- Budget
- Audience
- Placements
- Schedule
Ad = The Creative
This is what people see:
- Image or video
- Caption
- Call-to-action
You can have:
- 1 campaign
- Many ad sets under 1 campaign
- Many ads under 1 ad set
This structure gives flexibility and testing power.
3. Choosing the Right Campaign Objective
Your objective controls how Meta delivers your ad.
When to Choose Traffic
Choose Traffic when you want people to:
- Visit your website
- Click a link
- Read a blog post
Best for bloggers and landing pages.
When to Choose Engagement (My Favorite)
Choose Engagement when you want:
- Likes
- Comments
- Shares
- Video views
I love Engagement because:
- It builds social proof
- You can retarget engaged users
- You can indirectly achieve awareness and traffic
It’s powerful and cheaper for warming up audiences.
When to Choose Awareness
Use Awareness if:
- You are a new brand
- You want reach
- You want visibility
It’s good for brand exposure, not direct sales.
When to Run Conversion Ads
Choose Conversions when:
- You want sales
- You have a website with Meta Pixel installed
- You want leads
Conversions are powerful but need proper setup.

4. Budget Strategy: CBO vs ABO
CBO (Campaign Budget Optimization)
Meta controls and distributes budget across ad sets.
ABO (Ad Set Budget Optimization)
You control budget at the ad set level.
I prefer ABO because:
- I decide how much each audience gets
- I can test properly
- I don’t lose control
Under ABO, Meta still pushes more delivery to the best-performing ads inside each ad set.
5. Targeting Strategy
In 2026, Meta’s machine learning is powerful.
My strategy:
- Define basic demographics (age, location, gender)
- Keep targeting broad
- Let Meta optimize delivery
Manual campaign setup gives more control than automatic settings.
6. Promote an Existing Post (Without Boosting)
Instead of clicking Boost Post:
- Go to Ads Manager
- Create Campaign (choose Engagement)
- At Ad Level, select “Use Existing Post”
- Choose the post
This keeps your data organized and scalable.
7. Payment & Billing in Nigeria
To pay for ads in Nigeria:
- Add a Debit or Credit Card (Visa or Mastercard)
- Use virtual dollar cards
- Set account currency properly
Meta charges automatically based on billing threshold.
Final Thoughts
Running ads is not gambling. It is structure + strategy + testing.
If you:
- Lost money before
- Got no results
- Only boosted posts
This guide gives you clarity.
Master the structure. Choose the right objective. Control your budget with ABO. Let Meta optimize targeting.
